What is MS?

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition that affects the brain and spinal cord.

It happens when the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering around nerves. This disrupts the messages travelling between the brain and body, which is why symptoms can vary so much.

Everyone’s experience of MS is different.

Newly diagnosed? Start here

Being diagnosed, especially in your 20s or 30s, can feel overwhelming.

You might be dealing with medical terms, treatment decisions, and a lot of “what does this mean for me?” questions all at once.

Tests and treatments

MS is diagnosed using a combination of neurological exams, MRI scans and sometimes lumbar punctures.

There isn’t currently a cure, but treatments have improved significantly. Many people take disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) to reduce relapses and slow progression.

Support isn’t just medical - symptom management, mental health support and lifestyle adjustments all matter too.
