Here at MS Together, we are working on many exciting projects to help improve the lives of others, and are very proud of the progress we continue to make. Learn more about what we do, who we help, and how we work every day to promote positive change and support all our members.
One thing we've learned is that different people need different support. So, we try and offer something for everyone:
Community pages & groups
We have a private Facebook group which is where MS Together first started. It's a safe space for members to ask questions, talk about anything on their minds and make connections. As we are a regional organisation, we also have regional groups on Facebook to help people make connections with people who live near to them. We also have a number of WhatsApp groups set up based on different interests including - a gym group, a book club, a pregnancy & parents group and lots more!
1-to-1 support service
If you need someone to talk to, we offer a 1-to-1 support service ran by our amazing support volunteers who can offer a listening ear and direct you to professional services. We also have an accredited Mental Health First Aider on the team, so again please reach out if you would like a confidential conversation regarding your mental health.
We have a live chat button on our website which is open to everyone affected by MS or even just people that want to find out more. We will aim to get back to you within 24 hours and we hope to make this even quicker when we can get funding behind the service. You can also email us at any point and we will do our best to get back to you ASAP.
We've created a public forum on our website for all our site members to use. It's aimed more so at people affected by MS who don't necessarily fit into our membership criteria but who still need support. So for example - someone over the age of 35 who wants to connect with others, or perhaps a friend or relative of someone with MS who has a worry or concern they want to share. Basically it's for anyone who has questions about MS or wants to learn more.
As we are a national organisation, it's a challenge to organise nationwide meet ups. However, we aim to do 2 per year and in between we encourage our Regional Group Leaders to organise local meet ups for their group members.
Our members love getting involved with fundraising activities so we've done lots of things including a cake competition, a raffle, a pumpkin carving competition, and more! We also came up with our very own fundraising initiative called 'Million Steps for MS'. In 2020 a group of MS Together members collectively completed 1 Million Steps for MS by walking / running / wheeling however much they could. In 2021, we upped this to 2 Million Steps and this year we've upped it again to 3 Million Steps. Through our fundraising activities, so far we've raised over £60,000 and we're already thinking about our next fundraiser!
Empowerment & Education
We believe that young people with MS are often underrepresented which leads to misconceptions and misunderstandings around MS. It's surprising to hear how many of our members have been met with comments like "you're too young to have MS" or "you look too well to have MS". We therefore know how important it is to educate not only our friends and family but also strangers, businesses, employers. One of our aims is therefore to empower our community to share their stories, educate others and advocate for themselves. And we want to give our members the tools and confidence they need to do this.
